Austin to Wrestle at WM28?

The idea of Steve Austin having a role at WrestleMania 28 has been discussed a lot within WWE but those close to the situation say that the odds are against anything big happening, such as Austin wrestling a match. Of course, things can and always do change.
Bleacher Report: Update on The Rock and Steve Austin’s 2012 Wrestling Commitments
Source: BR.com
According to Wrestlescoop they have some interesting, albeit bare-bones news, about the roles of The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin next year in WWE.
Firstly, let’s talk about The People’s Champion. As we all know, he is booked to face John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XVIII. However, apparently he will be making appearances at all the big PPVs of next year. This includes the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam events. It is worth remembering that The Rock will be appearing at this year’s Survivor Series to further his feud with John Cena.
I can easily say that I’m not surprised that The Rock would make an appearance at the Rumble, as I would hope one half of WrestleMania’s main event would start to make regular appearances in between then and the big event. Showing up at SummerSlam is also a no-brainer if he has the time to make the commitment. With him living in Los Angeles and the event being an annual show there, it makes sense.
The problem I have with this news is that WWE are “hoping” they can squeeze more appearances out of him beyond the big shows. I would have hoped this would have been sorted beforehand so that Rock could have made regular Raw appearances in the buildup between Rumble and Mania. Hulk Hogan began to take a lot of fan abuse when he rarely showed up during the buildup for his match with Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam 2005.
In regards to Austin, WWE have discussed having him in a major role at WrestleMania XVIII but the chances of him wrestling, as with every year, are slim.
I think fans might have gotten carried away a little bit with recent interviews opening doors for matches with either CM Punk or Goldberg. Let’s face facts here: Austin was not exactly in a healthy condition when he stopped wrestling in 2003. He had a perfect last match that, while he lost, will be remembered for putting on a great show. Austin cares incredibly about how fans will remember him and he knows all too well that your last match sticks with the memory of fans.
A match against either man would be a dream match but only if Austin could perform to the necessary level. Whilst Rock hasn’t wrestled much more since the same match, he is definitely still in a performing condition.

WWEDVDNews.com can now exclusively reveal first official details on WWE’s final Stone Cold DVD, to be released on November 29th, 2011.
The working title right now is simply Stone Cold Steve Austin, naturally expected to change.
We can 100% confirm the feature will be released on both DVD and Blu-ray formats.
The DVD edition will be a 3-Disc set. This is also 100% factual, as listed on WWE’s schedule right now. Austin’s recent tweet referring to a 4 or 5-Disc release has not come to fruition.
As usual for the features of this size, the Blu-ray version will be a 2-Disc set.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Stone Cold Steve Austin”:
“He’s one of the most popular Superstars in the history of sports-entertainment, with a resume that includes six WWE Championship reigns, three Royal Rumble victories, a King of the Ring Championship, and an unprecedented run of raising hell throughout WWE. Stone Cold Steve Austin continues to be both popular and controversial, with the recent success of Tough Enough, his highly anticipated appearances on WWE Raw, and his continued movie career, the Texas Rattlesnake is still a pop culture force, and there has never been a comprehensive biography done until now. Stone Cold Steve Austin looks at the life and career of Austin, and includes exclusive, never-before-seen interviews with Austin and many of his in-ring rivals. ”

Goldberg Says: If He Returned to the Ring, Austin Would Be His Opponent
Goldberg said that if he returns to the ring, his ideal opponent would be Steve Austin. I don’t think he’ll get that wish if he’s returning to the ring this year, as I would be surprised if Austin wrestled, let alone worked a non-WrestleMania match.
Austin Talks About Facing CM Punk at WM28
Former WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin was a guest on ‘Attack of the Show” yesterday on the G4 network. Austin talked about his upcoming movie Tactical Force and of course, the WWE. During the interview, Austin talked very highly of CM Punk’s recent promos. When asked if Austin would be facing Punk at Wrestle Mania 28 (which has been rumored), Austin didn’t say either way but did say if he has one last match, he wants it to come vs. Punk.
